PIES alerts/validations

This article will clarify the meaning of PIES validations

Updated over a month ago

When working with PIES data, you may encounter Scorecards that flag certain alerts. These are not errors. Instead, they indicate that specific information will be ignored when exporting in PIES format.

Understanding these alerts will help ensure that your product data is correctly formatted and compatible with different PIES versions.

PIES validations

Below is a list of the most common alerts you may encounter in PDM, along with the PIES versions they apply to:

  • Brand is optional PIES 7.1+

  • Description Too Long (PIES 6.2)

  • Invalid Part Attribute Format (PIES 6.2)

  • Invalid Reference Code (PIES 6.2)

  • Invalid Reference Code (PIES 6.5)

  • Invalid Reference Code (PIES 6.7)

  • Invalid Reference Code (PIES 7+)

  • Part number is optional PIES 7.1+

  • PriceType Description only PIES 7.0+

  • Qualifier is optional PIES 7.1+

  • Quantity per Application String (PIES 7+)

  • Sub Brand in Kit only PIES 6.7+

Let's take Invalid Reference Code (PIES 6.7) as an example

For PIES 7.2: The system includes the Title Description in the export.

For PIES 6.7: The system does not include the Title Description.

Enable the Scorecards to align with the PIES version you're going to use. That way, you avoid confusion.

You can achieve this by going to Brand Settings -> Scorecards

Notes

  • Always review Scorecards before exporting PIES data.

  • The data is not blocked from saving in PDM but will be excluded from the PIES export if it does not meet requirements.

PIES validations in PDM are designed to guide you in aligning your data with the requirements of different PIES versions. While these alerts do not prevent you from saving or working with your data, they highlight areas that may not transfer correctly when exporting. By reviewing Scorecards and adjusting where needed, you ensure your exports remain accurate, compliant, and ready for your receivers.
